Experience
Researcher and leading psychology instructor with 10+ years of experience in rendering academic excellence with a history of facilitating hybrid and completely online courses including the management and oversight of information sharing platforms at Columbia University. Engaged in producing advanced learning opportunities for higher education students. Versatile and effective educator and researcher regarding cognitive, educational, general psychology and media subjects. Extensive experience in classroom management, lesson planning, curriculum implementation, cooperative learning, performance assessment, and technology integration. Engaged in developing new strategies to facilitate courses - prepare handouts, exams, and assignments while maintaining positive classroom relationships with students; adept at quantitative and qualitative media research design and data analysis. Self-motivated to pursue and disseminate knowledge: incorporate real-world experiences into coursework to promote lifelong learning and dedicated to the principles of academic integrity and intellectual honesty. Skilled at capturing students’ attention and motivating the learning process while effectively communicating with clarity and logically, both orally and in writing; able to establish rapport with a wide range of people of various ages. Cultivated adapt presentation of coursework/training material to ensure complete comprehension by students/staff Throughout my training as a psychologist at Columbia University, Teachers College, I have purposely surrounded myself within a community of cognitive, educational, and media researchers due to the belief that the development of useful media applications requires a careful understanding and appreciation for the research for which they will be applied. This belief initially developed during my master degree training in developmental psychology and has been nurtured during my graduate work in cognitive studies. These experiences have shown me that teaching is not carefully contained in the classroom, but is instead an integral part of the daily life of a scholar. My experience, coursework, and research have prepared me to teach a variety of courses designed for students taking psychology courses. Based on my dissertation research and training I would be comfortable teaching any of the following subjects, although this list is by no means exhaustive: (1) Cognition & Learning: Cognitive and information-processing approaches to attention, learning, language, memory, and reasoning. (2) Cognitive Development: Theory and research on the development of cognitive processes across the lifespan. (3) Research Methods: This course examines basic principles of quantitative and qualitative research design in psychological settings. (4) Introduction to Psychology: This is a broad survey course covering topics such as physiological, social, organizational, and developmental psychology. The course will develop one’s understanding of seeing psychology as a science of human thought and behavior. (5) Development Psychology: Childhood: Children's cognition, perception, representation, language, affect, personality, and sexuality. Covers family structure and school as they influence these aspects of childhood. (6) Developmental Psychology: Infancy: Review of research and theory in early perceptual, cognitive, and social/emotional development, with particular attention to the interaction of biological and environmental factors in early life. (7) Media Psychology: Covers psychological theories and research that relate to various media and what people learn directly and indirectly from them. (8) Technology & Human Development: Examines the use and design of various educational technologies (computer software, multimedia shareware, television, internet sites, etc.) from the perspective of basic research and theory in human cognitive and social development. Provides a framework for reasoning about the most developmentally appropriate uses of technology for people at different ages
